She had been on her own for a long time now. Or at least, two seasons too long. Her and her youngest, yet closest brother, Kodiak had been separated in the past winter and it seemed to rip the young dog apart. She had been very upset about it for a while, but she knew that life had to go on, and she couldn't grieve forever. The spring had gone by fast, the new life around her seemed to make her heart swell with emotion. But, as quick as it had come, it had gone, and she was once again alone in the world. It was at this moment that the young she dog, had begun to travel westward. She had heard of some dogs gathering there, and now she wanted nothing more to have some company. Of course, with her emotional problems, it was already super hard for her to do that. Ever since her family, she was unable to trust anyone or anything. It just...didn't work out on the end.
A large sigh escaped her throat, but she was ripped from her thoughts when a crack of lightning filled the sky and suddenly it was down pouring. Almost instantly, her medium length fur was plastered against her body and she was left freezing. Without even thinking, the young dog started running toward the nearest sanctuary from the rain, ignoring the loud banging of thunder that echoed from the sky that was sure to cause her to panic if she listened to it for too long. Finally, she found a place. It was a series of buildings, but they didn't seem too abandoned. Still, she had no time to think, and threw herself through the doors, shaking her coat vigorously. When she had soaked the tile floor around her, she finally rose her head to look around. It was a strange place, something that the humans had obviously put much effort into keeping it nice and prettied up.
Suddenly, she forgot about the storm raging outside and how cold she was, and began to walk around the place, her ears and tail raised in curiosity. There seemed to be strange artifacts and objects locked inside glass cages, it was interesting. She even saw a few large creatures made of bone. She hadn't seen something so interesting in a long time. Soon enough, the young shepherd was prancing around like a love struck puppy, making sure she saw every aspect of the place and soaked up all there was to know about it. Who knew that a little storm could make her forget her aching loneliness so quickly? NOTES ; "Athena is speaking" #779444

Since puphood, Poseidon had taken comfort in the constant drumming of rainfall. Whether it be the tinny ring of the water on a building's roof, of the muffled thuds of the drops on the leaves of trees. His favorite feeling, though, was when he could feel the taps of rain on his fur, soaking him to the bone and sending a shiver down his spine. As his name might suggest, the dog had had a fascination with precipitation since the beginning. And today was a great day to take a walk, he thought, as he peered out from under a stairway. He could feel the upcoming storm in his bones when the cool blast of wind brushed his flanks.
Heaving himself up into a standing position, Poseidon shook out his short coat. A tired yawn graced his muzzle before he began trotting toward the buildings he knew displayed all kinds of old human junk. Sure, some of it was pretty, but none of it really held his attention. Except, of course, the giant stone...thing in the middle of a grand circular room that always had water cascading down into a pool at the floor. There were these shiny metal coins at the bottom that made it seem even more magical than it already was.
As he reached the building, Poseidon took a few more moments to stand out in the downpour that had started a few minutes ago. His amber eyes shut at the glorious feeling of the water slicking his fur before heading inside. Different types of items littered the area in special glass boxes. Why did humans like to look at this stuff? The pointer rolled his eyes and continued his stroll through the room. He passed through a doorway into a new, larger space. It was filled with a bunch of bones placed together to make big, frightening creatures. They looked fake, though. Something the humans here made up. Nothing with a skull that large could have ever existed. Humans were strange beings, indeed.
His ears perked for the first time as he heard the distinct shuffle of another canine's gate. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously, but the other dog didn't seem in a hurry. Though he couldn't see her yet, Poseidon could pick up the scent of a female who was also as drenched as he was. Padding to the nearest doorway, the pointer stuck his head around the corner, his attention catching on a smaller female who was clearly mesmerized by the pieces of junk littering the room. He huffed, walking further into the doorway. The dog opened his jaws to speak. "It's all so fascinating, isn't it?" he spoke sarcastically, watching the female's reaction. 451 WORDS ATHENA FIRST POST! THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

The young shepherd had always had a passion for old, strange objects. This place was a little heaven to the young dog. Her chocolate gaze was not faltering in the slightest as she looked at all the giant creatures made of bone. It was just fascinating. She didn't know if they were real or if they were a figment of the humans imaginations. Either way, they were beautiful, and she loved the fantasies and theories that flew into her mind when she looked at them. She had been so focused on the bone creatures, that she hardly noticed the other dog in the area until he was upon her and speaking. She caught the sarcasm on his voice instantly, but she wasn't listening to his words. Her inner demons were kicking in and she was already feeling the anxiousness rise in her chest. She felt as though she were going to faint - and it was that feeling that locked her in her position.
She kept her back to the brute. It made it easier that way. Even though it made her more vulnerable, any attack on her was way less pain than the lock down her chest was going into. The shepherd forced her eyes to look at the objects, to force herself to breathe. She didn't need this kind of attack, she didn't need to provoke a fight. She just needed to calm down, she needed to breathe. The she dog didn't know how long it took for her to stop her trembling, or her breath to stop coming in shaking gulps, but finally, she was able to calm herself down to a few light trembles. Soon enough, she was able to turn her brown-eyed, doe eyes to the brute who had approached her. He was interesting looking, to say the least. His chocolate brown fur that matched the shepherds eyes as well as his white markings - even in the sopping wet condition, they were still unique, and almost charming.
The canine almost growled at herself for thinking such thoughts, but she caught her composure. Of course, her dominant stance was pretty much bluffing, she would sink back if he really did want to fight her, but if worse came to worse, she would defend herself. Still, there was no harm in looking like she was a force to be reckoned with. She allowed her strong shoulders that showed of her German shepherd traits, but her small frame seemed to be rather pitiful with the Border Collie. Either way, she held her stance, trying her best not to look like the terrified little pup she was when it came to meeting strangers. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." She spoke firmly, pleased to see that the shakiness had not met her voice and she sounded calm and strong. It was a nice change, at least to her.
Now, she turned her eyes back to the male, allowing her haunches to sink back into a sitting position. There was no point in starting a fight, plus, she knew she was lonely deep down. Could a conversation with a strange male really be so harmful? "I'm Athena, what brings you to this strange human den?" She almost swore at herself for the slight quiver that betrayed her composed nature. But, that's what she got for having such a bad social anxiety with creatures of her own kind. The only way it was going to change was if she worked to fix it. And that could only be done by communicating with other dogs. Her fluffy tail wrapped around her paws, twitching patiently at the tip as she waited for a response from the brute. NOTES ; "Athena is speaking." #779444

The first thing Poseidon noticed about the female was the instant tension in her form when his baritone voice hit her ears. It was almost laughable that he was considered a threat to her, as he was only here to see a stone figure that spouted water in the first place, not to terrorize the local canines. His lean form drew closer to her. Perhaps he was tempting her, because clearly he was not wanted--but since when did he listen to social cues? That's right, never. A small smirk found its way to his lips but he tried to tamper it down even though the speckled female still had her back to him. She seemed to be taking fast, shallow breaths as if her lungs would collapse without sufficient oxygen. Poseidon tipped his head to the right. Was he really that unbearable or was there something wrong with this chick?
"Hey, Sweetheart, you okay?" he prodded awkwardly, actually a bit worried that this dog was going to burst right in front of him. (And he really didn't like blood all that much.) She acted as if she never heard him, which was plausible. She probably couldn't anything over her freaking breathing. Poseidon actually thought about just turning around and acting as if this whole encounter (if one could call it that) never happened. As he was about to leave, the female seemed to calm down enough to breathe normally, turning around to face him. She jutted her head up and stood confidently, as if to show him she was not afraid. But her eyes gave away her true intentions. There was a slight shake to her form and, to be honest, her frame was not one to send chills of fear down his spine. Poseidon narrowed his eyes questioningly, running her eyes over her. She wasn't unattractive.
Her dark eyes met his and she spoke, finally. He scoffed at her remark. "I suppose so," he murmured halfheartedly. Really, he found little beauty in a place like this. Humans weren't that great. Poseidon focused his attention back on the dog in front of him. She seemed to be eyeing him up, so he let her. She had to know by now that he had no want to start anything, if his relaxed posture said anything. He figured she'd worked it out when she took a seat and introduced herself. Athena. Hmph. It seemed to fit her. The pointer took a short look around the room before answering her question. "Poseidon. And I came because, somehow, I just knew there'd be a pretty lady here for me to entertain," he spoke smugly, his musical voice ringing with mischief. It was a lie, obviously, but he couldn't help himself. And he also wasn't going to tell her about his favorite watery object in this building. It was too personal, and it sounded stupid even in his head. He let his amber gaze run over her once more, a little more obvious this time. Oh, this will be fun.

It took a few moments before the male spoke up and announced that his name was Poseidon. She knew it had something to do with water - being the curious dog she was, her intelligence reached far and wide. But, that was the only thing that her mind would ring at - water. So, she passed it off and focused on his next words. Something about knowing a pretty would be waiting for him. She caught his lie in the way his voice seemed to raise in a playful manner and in her own remark, she tilted her head to the side, a look of amusement shadowing over her brown eyes. For a while though, she didn't say anything, just sat in the company of another dog. It had been a long, long time since she had someone to simply sit down and talk with. Still, it felt foreign, odd. Like it was something she was not supposed to do or had never done before.
And that was true in some ways. Athena had only been in contact with her family and a few strangers she had met in her travels. The only time they really stopped to talk was when she needed directions to go somewhere or a place to rest her head for the night. So, sitting down in the middle of a human den with a male, basically just chatting away..well that was new. Her brown and black ears flicked and she finally allowed herself to accept that this male wasn't trying to ambush her or cause harm in general. If he wanted to do that he could have done it when her back was turned and she was trying to catch her breath. There was no need for her to be so uptight - he obviously wasn't. So why was she still so cautious, so hesitant?
A light sigh and she flicked her ear again, rising her eyes to fall back on the brute before her. "So.." She purred sweetly, allowing her voice to match the swooning tint in his own. "Entertain me. Or i'll entertain you." If she was really focused on this, she might have even winked at him. But, either way, she rose to her paws and gave in to the flirtatious nature, turning her back to him and flicking her fluffy tail against his face. There was no need to be shy, she might as well enjoy the company and have a little bit of fun with it as well. Keeping her head high, she trotted around the area like a female who knew she was pretty and didn't know what to do with herself.
It was simply all a game, a one night stand perhaps, but there was plenty of fun in the chase. "Care to join me for a walk?" She purred to the male once more before turning into a different hallway and making her way through it's darkness. Her ears flicked as the rain poured over their heads and the thunder seem to shake the building, but she was perfectly content with her situation at the moment. NOTES ; Eh, this is pretty poorly done. Sorry! My muse just doesn't like to go from chaotic and sinister creep to sweet and timid beauty xD So much rambling... "Athena is speaking." #779444

The female--err, rather, Athena, was slowly but surely loosening her tense muscles. Poseidon prided himself in the art of making others relax. He knew of his special charm, and loved seeing it work in action. The stupidly smug look would probably be permanently etched into his face if he didn't knock it off soon. That wouldn't be a bad thing, though. He thought it made him look even more handsome. Poseidon didn't want to scare her off with his ego too soon, though, and so he kept that thought to himself. He took advantage of Athena's distracted stare to get a better look at her.
She was pretty, yes. But he'd met a lot of pretty faces wandering around Wolf Creek. Nothing ever came of them--which was fine with him. He's not sure he'd ever be able to quit his teasing, flirty side and settle down. Not now, at least. It was too much fun. And he's not sure he believes in the whole soulmates shit anyway. Poseidon rolled his eyes internally, pulling himself out of his reverie. Why the hell is he having a conversation with himself when there was a willing female in front of him? He scoffed. Poseidon's striking amber eyes returned to Athena, taking in her form. She's fairly short, but not really small. Her ticked coat reminded him of a Blue Heeler he'd once known, though her fur was more feathery around her ears and cheeks. It gave her a certain innocent charm. Her darker brown eyes were pensive as they returned his gaze.
Finally, she spoke. Really, he had no clue how she would react to his blunt statement, already upfront with his intentions. Poseidon was not going to actually pursue her, but what fun is meeting a female without flirting with her? His brows raised at the tone of her voice, which had taken a sultry ring much like his own. Ah, so she was gonna play along. Great. Athena rose to a standing position and turned her back to him. He wasn't really prepared for her feathery tail to brush against his muzzle, but he was able to keep his face neutral. Wow, she was really getting into this. Though, she looked as if she hadn't had much social interaction in a while, so she might just be bored. Which was still fine. That's pretty much his reasoning as well. Poseidon smirked and pushed himself up to follow her. "I know pretty great ways of passing the time. I'm sure I'll think of something for us to do," his voice rumbled.
As she started prancing around, he trailed after her, not putting much distance between them. Their flanks brushed often, even though he was taller than her. Athena seemed to be enjoying this game as much as he, so he mostly just watched her trot around. The further they walked, the darker the hallway became, only accented by the occasional strike of lightening. The rumble of the thunder only excited him more. Storms were one of his favorite things, and perhaps that's why he felt a little more relaxed and bolder than normal. Poseidon intentionally bumped her side with his, slowing down their little walk.
"So, what actually brings you to this place on a dark and stormy night, Athena?" he prodded, his voice coming out silky smooth. Poseidon took a slow loop around the female, keeping his eyes on hers before flitting them over her body. "Surely all this human junk doesn't interest you," he spoke. The pointer tipped his head to the side, emboldened by another harsh boom of thunder. THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY
